About Sarah

Hello I am Sarah, I am a 21 year old single mother of a wonderful 4 year old. I moved to Oklahoma in 2001 from Indiana so most of my flock is from Indiana and Ohio. Please don't let my age fool you I am very honest and know my birds well.

My passion for these feathered critters came when I was 6 years old. The lady across the street from me had an aviary that was huge. Her birds ranged from finches to Amazons, every color and size imaginable to a little girl. By the time I was 7 I was handfeeding all of her babies and being paid pretty good money to a kid lol. I learned that this lady wasn't such a good person in the long run as I ended up with my first birds ( Cockatiels) that she had kept in a closet with insecticide and other harmful things in with them. I took them instead of my cash.

My first birds Nick a whitefaced and Chance a normal grey became my best friends they were between 3 and 5 when I took them from the lady above. Talk about something to brag about lol they whistled MayBerry, Adams Family and yelped like puppies. Soon I adopted a whiteface hen that was really young her name was Charlie and about 1 year later Charlie and Chance were making babies in big clutches at least 5 babies everytime. I was in heaven with these babies everyone of them hand tame and spoiled rotten it broke my heart when it came time for them to find new homes but heck what do you expect from a 9 year old.  I lost Chance in the Winter of 2006 he was close to 18 years old talk about some heart break.

I soon started recieving crippled birds and birds no one wanted because they were biters, screamers, or just not appealing to the owner any longer. How could you not love these guys? I do rescue and breed but my rescues are never bred. The ones with major disabilities and are way up in age stay with me, I do adopt out the healthy young guys that come into my life. Sadly though most that is brought my way will be kept. I have birds with broken necks, missing wings, no toes, and a tiel that someone cut the beak on.

I have since become a natural Cockatiel lover I have rescued many birds and bought some as well. I do have a lot to deal with when it comes to the birds but they are very loved and spoiled. I colony breed but know who the daddy is of all of my babies, this way of breeding works well for me. My flights are 6ft x 5ft x 6ft for my breeders and my disabled/old bird flight is 6ft x 4ft x 6ft. So yeah my birds are pretty comfy. I never over breed my hens are allowed 1 to 2 clutches a year and most of the time they only give me one which is ok with me.

I met Heather when she came from Harrah to pick up 2 cockatiels from me. I liked the way she thought she didn't turn away when she learned my age as most people do. Instead she said as long as they are healthy then you are doing the right thing. We talked a little on the phone a few times then one day she calls to tell me that her hens mate was picking on her and being mean. She was worried because baby wouldn't get off the eggs so she brought them to me. My birds quickly went into action sitting on eggs and someone was always in the nest box. Soon Eshno and Armando were hatched and my birds were feeding them and loving them to death lol. Soon Heather came to pick up the babies to handfeed and now we both have one..

Well this is a little about my flock and myself hope you enjoy...
Much love from the Feathered Kids and Myself
